Dearest Minnie:
Read your letter yesterday dated 10/7/17 so you see it takes nearly a month for our mail to reach its destination you never say in your letters whether you receive any of my letters or not but have kept on writing just the same in hopes some of them would go thro and finally reach their goal. The picture enclosed is very good including the scenery in the background as it gives one an idea of the surrounding country there which I have often wondered about most of which I expect to see some day soon. I am surprised to hear that Violet changed her mind about entering training and if Mike had any thing to do with it I think I will start a diary correspondence with him immediately if not sooner as I don’t think he should have interfered and always had a habit of telling him what I thot and he understood it in the right way.
Miss McKeever may be right about her solution to the article she read of the Americans winning the combat providing they get close enough to use those articles with which they are unexcelled. but as far as I know there is considerably

more of that type of fighting going on over there in The States than there is here. You stated that Mr Ferguson did not pass examination so he is back again, just who do you refer to, is it Peter Farqueharson that was in school if so when did he start visiting at B.G.H. I would like to know what he tried to enlist in and why he failed. if I get back to the States and find Mike again there is going to be one grand settlement if he don’t write some letters of course he is busy with his school work and undoubtedly is spending the evenings out. I don’t wish him much hard luck but I wish he were here he wouldn’t spend many evenings in, they are all spent out. Two fellows came back from the hospital today and one left yesterday so we have a little family reunion tonite. Family reunion last nite and stove warming for tonite every one trying to get their shoes dryer are getting accustomed to the life of a duck gradually and I will say once and for all that I don’t envy a ducks life at all. We have a fire fixed up tonite and a little heat feels

very comfortable. I am sorry I can’t send you any photographs as I have some snapshots but am not allowed to mail them. I can’t imagine what picture it is you wanted out of the trunk but you can help yourself if there is anything there you want. I suppose I might as well tell Mike to take my clothes and wear them out. You have not told me about your brothers progress lately I would like to know where he is and what he is doing, if he decides to go to work and you can induce him to continue his studies he still has a great advantage in the school of experience. You never say anything about any shows you attend, I always thot that was one of the many things you enjoyed and would like to know that you were still spending at least a few pleasant evenings even if I do not get the opportunity here. Well dearest if this is to bear a Christmas greeting I will have to get it started on its way. I just happened to think today that about one year ago I took a ride in an ambulance one Saturday morning and stayed quite a

while at the journeys end, very peacefully to as I was afterward told many times that had I been a reader of the future I might have rimaind a permanent fixture in the building instead of a constant visitor maybe next time I will listen to invitations and good advice especially terms of peace. So wishing you a very Merry Xmas with all my heart I remain always.
Lovingly. Vernon.
